Zombie Witch Class at Faye Cahill

So EXCITED!!!  I have been invited to teach a class with Faye Cahill!!!

Faye has been so gracious to invite me to design this figurine for a class at her studio on 27th May 2012. I so admire all her work, she is so innovative with delicious luxurious finishes and designs executed with such perfection and attention to detail. I am so honoured to be able to hang out in her studio and teach along side an artist that I admire so much. Thank you Faye.

Alice in Wonderland Party Inspiration

Amazing Phots by Alexandria La Nier inspired us!! Check out the rest of her Alice in Wonderland series… they are very cool!

I have had lots of ideas for my Daughter’s upcoming 14th Birthday in June… I am designing an Alice in wonderland theme party… but without being too girly! She wants to focus on the MAD part of the tea party. She wants it to be a bit more steampunk/ gothic. I am working with some great vintage images of clocks and keys and tea cups and tea pots. I will post a sneak peak of the invite I am designing soon…

Our colour scheme is pink and green with black and white vintage graphics and floral accents. We are planning a topsy turvy cake and lots of tea desserts for a dessert table… I just want it to be a bit edgy and avoid cliches. I love tea parties and it will be fun for them to dress up!!

Hope you like the inspiration I have found!

21st Birthday Construction Cake

This cake was a request from a picture on the internet… I prefer to come up with my own designs but this was a rush job and all they wanted was this design which had a plastic digger stuck on top. It was also for a 21st for a Girl! I like a challenge… so I created the digger out of carved polystyrene covered in fondant, rice crispies would be great too! I covered it all in fondant, the digger arms held up with skewers, the tyres held on with toothpicks and into the cake also with toothpicks. The tyres are all piped with the birthday Girl’s name for a more personal touch. All the cones are made of fondant, coloured with petal dust and some gold pearl dust. I made the little hard hat from fondant and added a girlie touch with the little flower. Last I added a little present again to make it a bit more feminine with a bow and a flower. I think it looked really stunning and would have been a cute surprise when she saw her name on the wheels!

Topsy Turvy Stripes & Spots Birthday Cake

I have been wanting to give this cake style a try for ages… so I found the perfect excuse to give it a go. This is my first attempt so I was very happy with the way it turned out. The top tier is Rose flavoured White Chocolate Mud Cake and the bottom is Rich Chocolate Mud Cake. It celebrated two birthdays, one male, one female, so I chose orange and blue as the main colour scheme with accents in pink and green. It was very colourful and festive, but would suit lots of colour schemes and occasions. I will take more photos next time and put together a tutorial, it was a very satisfying cake to have accomplished!

Enjoy!
