Love Faye Cahill and her amazing work… it was an honor to meet and work with her. This class taken by NOT QUITE NIGELLA shows some of Faye’s wonderful tips for creating perfect wedding cakes with chocolate ganache. My Son’s 8th Birthday Lego Party

I spent last week going very nutty over Lego men!!!  My son Campbell had a great time with all his friends at his party… hope you get inspired!

Lego men marshmallow pops…

My Lego man Cake, made from chocolate mud cake and ganache…

Vanilla Lego man Cupcakes with flags…

Lego Cookies. I almost ran out of time to make these… but I couldn’t sleep so I got up at 5 am to bake them! So glad I did, they looked so cool! They are very easy to make, so I will put together a tutorial for them soon.

So easy to make! I just printed and cut out lots of lego man faces and stuck them onto the chinese take away boxes with doubled over sticky tape.

I made wrappers for the chocolate bars and mini lemonade bottles….

Personalised tags for the lego man crayons to go with the colouring in books…

I sent the kiddies home with a big piece of cake and their other little goodies in these bags.

Hope you liked my party inspiration!

Lego Cake Board Tutorial

My first attempt at ever being organised!!! I have started early on decorating the cake board for my son’s Lego party on the 26th of May. As this can be made ahead of time and stored I can have it ready to go, and concentrate on the Cake and baked goodies that have to be made fresh…

It always drives me crazy when I see an amazing cake with intricate details and decorations, that I can tell that someone spent  ALOT of time and effort and love in to creating but they leave the board uncovered!!! Argh! It can add so much to the overall effect of your design and just gives it such a professional finished look.

  1. Simply roll out your fondant thinly to the size of the board.
  2. Moisten with a little water
  3. Place over board as you would a cake
  4. Smooth with a smoother on top
  5. Smooth along edge with a smoother then trim edge with a sharp knife
  6. Gently smooth the edge with your palm or fingers
  7. Cut out LOTS of little dots with the tip of a large piping tip
  8. Glue down in rows around the board with a tiny dab of water
  9. Steam to make it shiny or paint with confectioners lacquer.

I will add more photos of the finished cake and show you a tutorial for my lego man cake after the party! :)

Enjoy!
